Mayoral homies, music junkies, and new record label, The Long Road Society is a collective of incredible individuals in Oakland, California who have been putting it down for years. Sitka Sun represents the first of many releases on the docket for The Long Road Society in 2018, and DAMN is it tasty.
Sitka Sun is the musical love child of bassist/arranger, Patrick Murphy and the self-titled debut is a gorgeous melange of styles, sounds, and emotions. Caribbean/Afrobeat stylings blended with Americana makes for an incredibly pleasing aural experience. After listening to the album a few times, I’ve found myself getting lost in the grooves and loving every second. Psychedelic, chill, and groovy, this self-titled release is the truth. Pick up the album from The Long Road Society here: BUY.
After a long hiatus, the Mayor is BACK. And how does one jump back into the scene? What better way than with a new offering from King Kendrick Lamar in video form. Here is i.
Yasiin Gaye - Travellin’ Man Pt. II (Distant Lovers Mix) - Amerigo Gazaway
Yasiin Bey has recently been in the headlines due to troubles while traveling or rather, re-entering the country of his birth. We’ll have to watch how this one plays out. I remember practicing scratching to Travellin’ Man on vinyl in 2004-5. Anywho.. Here’s a cut from Yasiin Gaye - Amerigo Gazaway’s project mashing Yasiin Bey and Marvin Gaye. Enjoy and good luck to Mr Bey.
Ooooh we’re gonna have a lot of fixins? Yessir the kings Jay go at this beat that kicks off with none other than Kenny fucking Powers and Stevie Janowski. Dig it.
I had to throw another one of The Melker Project’s RHCP flips up here. You serious? Heater. Dig this mash featuring none other than the great, Bone Thugs n’ Harmony.
The Melker Project is back at it with this latest in a long line of incredible remix projects. This time the homie goes after the Red Hot Chili Peppers and smashes some of their classics into modern songs. Peep the whole project here - Red Hot Trilli Peppers - The Melker Project
New joint from Hova and Daft Punk, Computerized, is pretty much what you’d expect from this collabo.. a banging synth soundscape complete with robo-vocals with Jay laying down some ridiculous rhymes. Dig it.
Shorty Swing My Way ft KP & Envyi - The Melker Project
KP & Envyi’s “Shorty Swing My Way”, is atop my 90’s club banger list. Those drums? Killin em… That said, I love what Mayoral homie, The Melker Project, does with his remix of the jam. Mr Melker adds:
If you were alive in the 90s, you were most likely a fan of “Shorty Swing My Way” by KP & Envyi. I’ve considered remixing this track for a long time and finally found the right inspiration. I was thinking, “what would this track sound like if it was made today by a modern hip hop producer?” (like me, for example)“… and this is what I came up with. The track starts with an acoustic R&B feel, featuring yours truly tickling the keys. As the track progresses, it becomes more of a crunk banger, later moving into an uptempo club track. I hope you like it - I’m really happy with the way it turned out!
Life Round Here feat Chance the Ripper - James Blake
London meets Chicago on this straight banger from James Blake featuring Chance the Ripper. The Chi spitter brings grittiness to James Blake’s crooning, dark, electronic soundscape. Dig it.
